The scepticism of others can be a fantastic motivator. It can drive you to prove them wrong and work harder on your goals. It can also stop you going down just any old track to reach your goal.
Quite often the scepticism can come from someone who really cares for you and doesn't want you to make a costly mistake. They might also be afraid of you stepping out of the normal, safe, grove that people follow. This is not a bad thing, and all they are is being what Darren Hardy calls an accountability partner.
They are holding you to account and giving you a yard stick by which to measure your ideas, and possibly tweak the immediate plan. It is important to be grateful for this, as sometimes head long rushes can end up in a lot of broken dreams; like the fabled bull in a china shop.
This is not to say it should stop you but by being grateful for it, it can provide the Mojo, that Darren Hardy talks about, that you need to succeed.
By letting a person close to you know that you are grateful for their scepticism, and in fact you would like them to be your accountability partner. They will know that you really mean what you are saying, and you are not being sarcastic. If this person is really close to you then the journey to your success will affect them too, and you would rather have them as part of your support team than not. As Christy Moore in his song the Voyage the destination is not marked on any chart. So you need their help to get there.
By making a sceptic your accountability partner, can show the power of gratitude and create great results in your relationship.
A dose of scepticism is not a bad thing as long as you control it by knowing that when it comes from friends and family it is only because they care about you. The secret is to not let it become a tidal wave that could set you back. One way of doing that is to harness the power of gratitude by saying thank you to the sceptics and if close bring them along with you as your accountability partner.
There are a lot of opportunities out there, and grabbing the right one can be tricky, so this is where the sceptics can help. In this economic climate more and more people are needing to help themselves survive, so the input of dose of scepticism can help you choose a path that is right for you and not waste money.
