Be grateful for nerves
As can be seen from the European victory in the Ryder Cup, nerves can help you perform well. As long as they can be controlled then they stop you believing you are unbeatable. For even Muhammed Ali knew he was beatable, if his opponent had a better future history.
History has been made in Medinah, but it proves that you are not defeated until the last ball. This can be the case in life as in sports like golf and tennis.
Look at how since Andy Murray has been coached by Ivan Lendl he has calmed down and channeled his energy into winning. His matches are longer and his stamina much better. As he says in his autobiography not winning all the time helps you learn and improve. He is fiercely competitive but still gets nervous, and is a firm believer in always supporting other players on their way up.
So whether it is a new skill you are excercising for the first time, or you have a big pitch to do. A good way to tackle your nerves is to see them as a positive thing and be grateful for them.
