Taking a step back in life can be good
Sometimes in life it can be good to take a step back in your career. It can mean you go forward stronger and wiser than before. It can mean you change direction and enjoy a totally new field of opportunity. When you do go into a new field there are always lots of people who will say to you you should stay where you are; but that is not always possible. In this economic climate it can be hard to stay in the field you know simply because there are virtually no jobs in it. So when you are brave and venture into a new field you can't normally enter at the level you were in your old job.
Taking the skills you have built up in your old area of expertise can mean you excel and progress quickly. It can mean that you get noticed quickly because you bring a fresh pair of eyes and ideas to the party. The drive and determination you have shown can also make you attract people to the new organisation.
One thing that can shine through to people is that you haven't let pride get in the way of making what could be a fantastic decision for you and your family. The family who have supported you through what may have been a difficult time. You know what they say pride comes before a fall, and whilst it is good to be proud of yourself, arrogance and snobbery is not attractive. Who knows taking that step back could enable you to develop in more directions than one, and provide more income streams than you had in the past.
So sometimes it pays to be grateful for the chance to take a step back.
