Change your focus
First of all let me wish you a very Happy New Year.
I am sure this is going to be a good year, after all the year is mainly what you make it. If you think positively then even when the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune come your way; you can make the best of it.
The last few years have been a real struggle for me, as they have for many people; and at times I wondered how I was going to get out of the position I was in. Some times I have felt that I was plain stupid and have made a mess of things. In desperation I have been taken in by quick fix promises, and on occasion bought them. There is a lot of truth in the saying all that glitters is not gold, and in the end these things have made me feel worse. I have got through these difficult times thanks to the unquestioning love of my kids and my wife.
Who as we approached the New Year told me something that really made sense to me. As you have probably quessed I am someone who worries a lot, often about insignificant things like; "I did do X, didn't I? " when I have left work. I then spend the night worrying about it, only to find I did do whatever it was the next day. So my wonderful wife said to me that really when I worry I should change my focus and concentrate on something else. Now for someone like me this is easier said than done, but as part of my New Years resolutions I am going to try to do this.
I know there will be curved balls coming along the road that will hit me for 6 and get me wound up; hey it has happened already. The answer to these is that to every problem, as my wife says, there is a solution it is just a question of taking the time to find it.
So thanks to my family and friends I am still here and looking forward to the year with a change of focus and being able to harness the power of gratitude to make this year really special; despite the efforts of those who would throw a curved ball at me. For as Kipling said
"If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'"
Then you will be a better man for it. So by changing focus, and harnessing the power of gratitude, we can go on and face the challenges of the day.
